Museum of Contemporary Culturethe representation of identity in building facadeBy Daniel Moeis
This building form concept made by three parallel process design. Urban analysis , Site analysis and Box transform. Urban analysis and site analysis gave this building a base concept to made the building form in broad outline and box transform is the process design to get connected between the building form and the building program.
Urban analysis shows, there are four area which has different issues like culture, commercial, residential and religion. That four area divided by a strong line from Tanjung Priok-Sukarno Hatta and Gunung Sahari – Ancol. Process design in this museum was starting from tried to withdraw the concept of calligraphy and the analysis site to the building form. In this building mass, I focused to design the quality of space that was created. The quality of this space was designed with the unusual scale, that could be seen from the high measurement floor to floor that reached 5.5 meter. This high scale not only as the method that the building is seen big, but also had a connection between the building itself with the collection objects.
The object which has a value of art as a calligraphy painting and the statue will became the main collection in this museum. Through the research, calligraphy or statue artist usually make the painting and the statue two until three times bigger than the measurement of human body. So hoped this room in this building can facilitated each culture object that will be exhibited.
Finally This Contemporary Culture Museum was the representation from two important factors inside. First, this building was the representation from the culture context around this building site. In this project, religion and culture became one of the important factors in function of this museum. Second, museum also represent itself as the object which has a value of art.
